Who We Are

At Arboretum Coffee, we see ourselves as a living arboretum— where the cultivation of community and personal growth is akin to the careful tending of trees. We believe that when refugees and immigrants are welcomed, empowered, and given the tools to thrive, our entire community grows stronger. Yet, too often, systemic barriers stand in the way of stability and belonging. Limited English proficiency, lack of U.S. work experience, and missing professional networks make it difficult for newcomers to secure meaningful employment and build real community. Without access to supportive spaces that foster confidence and skill-building, many refugees and immigrants struggle to navigate their new lives.

Where Arboretum Coffee comes in.

We go beyond serving coffee—we serve opportunity. Through our paid apprenticeship program, refugees and immigrants gain:

  • Workforce training: Learning essential job and leadership skills in a real-world setting
  • Economic opportunity: Earning fair wages while preparing for long-term careers

The Arboretum Story

Arboretum Coffee was founded in 2016, inspired by the global refugee crisis and deeply rooted in our founder Hannah’s personal Middle Eastern heritage. Her time as a caseworker made one thing clear: traditional workforce programs weren’t designed for the realities refugees and immigrants face. She envisioned something better—a place that provided both real economic opportunity and a deep sense of belonging.

Today, Arboretum Coffee is more than a coffee shop. It’s a launchpad for growth, a bridge between cultures, and a community where everyone belongs.
