When she arrived in Northern Colorado from Venezuela, she brought with her a wealth of determination and a remarkable ability to build deep and trusting relationships. Like many immigrants, Maria faced challenges—adjusting to a new language, navigating an unfamiliar culture, and striving to find a place where she could thrive. But these challenges didn’t define her. What defined Maria was her unwavering commitment to community and her belief in a brighter future.

When Maria joined Arboretum Coffee’s apprenticeship program, a lifeline made possible by donors like you, her natural ability to connect with people became her greatest asset. In the welcoming environment of the program, Maria’s warmth and empathy not only helped her excel in her role but also uplifted those around her. She embraced every opportunity to learn, not just for her own growth, but to better support her team and her community. She gained not only job-skills, but mentors who helped her find better housing, offered guidance on life skills, and, most importantly, provided a community that believed in her. 

Today, Maria is a leader whose impact is felt far beyond her work as a barista. She has become a trusted mentor to her peers, a source of encouragement, and an advocate for the power of community. Her ability to bring people together and foster meaningful relationships has inspired those around her to dream bigger and reach further.
